EUDOXIA (Aelia) was married to Arcadius on 27th April, A.D.395. The daughter of Bauto the Frank, she wielded considerable influence over her weak husband, much to the disgust of many high ranking Romans, particularly those in the Church. She was the virtual ruler of the Eastern Empire from around A.D.400 until her death in childbirth in A.D.404 (October). She was the mother of five children, including amongst them, the future emperor Theodosius the Second and his sister Pulcheria.
