Myrina was one of several predominantly Ionian cities that ascribed their foundation to Amazons, along with Smyrna, Sinope, Kyme, Gryne, Ephesos, Pitania, Magnesia, Clete, Pygela, Latoreria and Amastris. On this coin we see the Amazon Myrina depicted in characteristic fashion with one breast bared associated with Amazons. The turreted crown conflates her with Tyche, and alludes to her mythical foundation of the city.
