JUDAEA. Caesaraea Maritima. Titus, as Caesar, 69-79. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 14.62 g, 12 h), RY 3 (of Vespasian) = 70/1. ΑΥΤΟΚP[•ΤΙΤΟΣ ΚΑΙΣ] ΟΥΕ[ΣΠ] Laureate head of Titus to right. Rev. [Ε]ΤΟΥΣ Γ IEPOY Eagle with spread wings standing left on palm frond, holding wreath in beak; in field to left, club. McAlee 379. Prieur 140. RPC II 1967. very fine.

This magnificent portrait of the victorious conqueror of Jerusalem, Titus, was minted in the months immediately following the fall of the Jewish capital on 8 September 70 CE. As RPC suggests, the most likely mint is Caesaraea Maritima, the capital of the province, which served as the regional military headquarters during the Roman campaigns against the Jewish insurgents.
