Marcus Aurelius. AD 161-180. Æ Sestertius (29mm, 23,53 g). Rome mint. Struck late AD 169-170. M ANTONINVS AVG TRP XXIIII Laureate head right, cuirased and draped bust / Aurelius and Commodus, both in military dress, standing left on platform with one attendant, addressing three soldiers standing right before, each holding a signum, ADLOCVT AVG / S C in exergue. This rare sestertius is the only adlocutio ("addressing the soldiers") type issued by Marcus Aurelius, which is surprising given his nearly continuous presence among the armies during the later years of his reign.
