Domitian - Sestertius victory over Germans very rare! (N2459)

DOMITIAN Augustus (81-96), AE sestertius, 85, Rome. very rare only one in the archives (Jean Elsen) Obverse  IMP CAES DOMITIAN AVG GERM COS XI. A laureate bust of Domitian facing right, with aegis. Reverse SC Domitian standing to the left in military attire, holding a spear. In front of him, a German kneeling to the right, his right hand extended in a gesture of supplication, and his left hand resting on a hexagonal shield. At his feet lies a helmet.

In the year 85, a series of coin types appeared celebrating Domitian's victories on the Rhine: captives depicted in poses of mourning or supplication, the emperor on horseback threatening a German lying on the ground...
