Commemorates the wars in northern Britain. The two outer figures are holding reeds, the rivers probably being Tyne and Eden, while the third, central female figure must be Britannia.


Caracalla, 198-217. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 3.16 g, 12 h), Rome, 207. ANTONINVS PIVS AVG Laureate head of Caracalla to right. Rev. VIRTVS AVGG Caracalla standing front, head to right, holding inverted spear in his right hand and parazonium in his left; to left, river god reclining on urn to right; to right, two bound captives seated to left. RIC 175. Very fine.
