The reverse type depicts the temple dedicated to Roma and Augustus by the Koinon of Asia at Pergamum in 19-18 BC. This temple is important for the early development of the imperial cult as it is the first temple dedicated to the worship of an emperor erected with the explicit assent of the emperor himself. When the Emperor Tiberius was later approached by a Spanish delegation about the erection of a temple in his own honor, he is said to have agreed using the Pergamene temple of Roma and Augustus as the precedent.
